American Curl

american curl kittens for sale

Appearance and features:

The American Curl has a silky flat laying, easy care coat that can either be long or short, a rectangular shaped medium sized body, expressive almond shaped eyes and backward curling ears that are adorned with long tufts, giving him a surprised appearance, and his name sake.  A natural mutation of nature, the curled ears first made their appearance around 1981.

Size:

This is a medium-size cat weighing 5 to 10 pounds.

Family:

One of the Youngest Cat Breeds today, their traceable roots go back to a litter born to a stray cat that displayed the curled ear set appearance.  Having 2 kittens in this litter who also displayed her curled ears, begun the start of a new breed that was continued on by cat breeder enthusiasts.

Coloring:

Their beautiful, easy to care for silky coats come in any color pattern, including the more exotic colors of chocolate tortoiseshell smoke, and lilac point, with very low amount of shedding.

Origin:

Lakewood, Colorado, United States of America

Temperament:

Unusually very active and playful.  A people loving feline, loves children and is known to seek out their company.  This makes him a good choice for families.  Capable of getting along with any cat friendly creature, but does not like being alone for long periods.  They should have a fellow feline playmate, so he does not develop separation anxiety.

Health concerns:

Generally healthy, though on the fragile side for cats.  They can have narrow ear canals, which can lead to ear infections from wax build up.  Though they do enjoy daily exercise, they can also become obese if appropriate food and feeding practices are not followed.
